|Hello 123 Elm St.!
What’s in this edition:
Shed painting day with my Buddhist friends 9th September
We had to postpone our last shed painting day as I ran out of people and energy! So it was like a message from the heavens when my buddhist friends asked if they could come and help out with some gardening activity at the allotments.
On Sunday September 9th, we’ll be there hopefully doing some shed painting, weeding and harvesting, weather permitting, and cooking up some soups. All ages and abilities are welcome. Our youngest ones will be supervised by their parents and carers and we want to also inspire them to paint their impressions to take home with them. There is no charge for the event. If you would like to come please message me so I can add your name to the list.

8th September – Talk at Woodfest as part of the Talliston Area
I’m often in awe at John and Marcus of Talliston House and Gardens on Newton Green. Their flair and attention to detail are amazing. They are at Woodfest with their travelling fayre on Friday 7th, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th September. I will be giving a talk about Permaculture and the return to older, more wiser ways of living in harmony with nature in one of the tents on the Saturday. All details to be confirmed. Join us on facebook to stay updated.
Dunmow Carnival Saturday 15th September
Get Diggin’ It will be taking part again at the Dunmow Carnival. Would you like to help plan or take part on the day? Saturday morning 25th August at 10am or next Wednesday 29th at 5.30pm we’ll be holding a short planning meeting. Reply to let me know if you can make either. If you’re new to the Carnival, it’s worth a visit. Let’s pray for good weather….last year it rained pretty much all day.
|Apple-y ever after! Either 29th Setpember or 7th October
If you have apple trees and the fruit ends up rotting on the ground all autumn, then we want to hear from you! Perhaps you can take part in our apple day by:
If you have a couple of hours to spare to help plan this event, please get in touch. We’d like to make this a little fund raiser for Get Diggin’ It. We need to raise money to help build a rainwater harvest system at our polytunnel site at Rainbow Rural.
|Bid Writer/Marketing Assistant
Thanks to the EALC based in Great Dunmow, we have been awarded some money to hire a part time bid writer/marketing assistant. If you or someone you know, are looking for a part time job, up to around 12 hours a week, we’d be happy to hear from you. I can send you job description and details if you respond to this email.

|Lettuce donation and veg sales
I can’t remember whether I mentioned to you that earlier in the growing season I had a heap of lettuce that I donated to Redbond Lodge, the care home for the elderly. They were very grateful. And it’s coming to the point where I have too many cucumbers…..would anyone like to buy one or two? If not, I’ll probably donate some more to the care home.
Or you can come to my home and buy some from our GDI garden here too. Message me on www.facebook.com/groups/getdigginit or on 07773 919071 and WhatsApp.
I’ll be sharing some recipes too on our new youtube channel so stay tuned.
|Can I talk at your organisation?
I’ve already given plenty of talks about Get Diggin’ It focussing on a range of diverse topics which include, not only, the ethos of Get Diggin’ It but principles of permaculture, Recycling and reusing and eating and cooking in season. If I can give a talk at your organisation, please reply to this email or contact me on 07773 919071.
|Volunteering is a radical act of protest!
We are stronger together than apart. And in growing our own food, we also help people with all kinds of issues come together and build community. AND you get free veg too! What’s not to like? Let’s be radical!
We need help with: Website, Marketing, social media, growing veg, organising volunteers, admin, etc. Every hour you can offer helps. Thanks to the Community Initiatives Fund for their grant and the EALC for their funding of Get Diggin’ It.
What is Ubuntu?
Ubuntu is a growing movement of people who would rather deal with other people direct than through the system of money and debt which isolates us in our homes, worrying about paying bills and how to make ends meet. Ubuntu seeks to build communities, bring people together of like mind, and really energise our local communities. There are meetings in Dunmow. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll keep you in the loop.
Has knowing about Get Diggin’ It sparked any ideas in you? We would love to hear them. Just reply to this message and we will let you know we’ve received your thoughts and will put them to our very small team next time we meet.
